The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) of Egypt is an independent authority established to protect consumer health and advocate for consumer interests. NFSA ensures that the food consumed, distributed, marketed, or produced in Egypt is of the highest safety and hygiene standards.

The NFSA launched in 2008 as the National Food Safety Management Unit (FSA-MU) under the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry. According to Article 3 (1) of 2017, NFSA has the authority to “issue mandatory technical regulations governing food safety in accordance with the applicable international standards and in a manner consistent with the national requirements and such regulations shall be determined by a decision issued by NFSA/BOD"

Cotecna is authorised by NFSA to issue Certificates of Inspection for food and food products exported to Egypt.
